UAAF Benefit Anthology
Calling all animal lovers! Twisted Tree Press is proud to announce the call for submissions for our next anthology, which will benefit the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation.
What's better than reading a good story? Reading a good story with a furry friend beside you, of course! The UAAF helps save the lives of cats, dogs, and bunnies every day. Each volunteer, foster home, and adoptive pet-parent is a hero to these animals. In this anthology, we'll feature stories where our furry friends are the stars.
Submissions are open until midnight (Mountain time) on Thursday, May 31. Read on for more information.
About the UAAF:
The Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation (UAAF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization specializing in the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of homeless animals. UAAF is an active participant in the Best Friends Utah coalition and is working closely with other coalition members to help end the euthanasia of homeless pets.
UAAF believes that every animal deserves a home regardless of age or disability. They specialize in the rescue and rehabilitation of 'special needs' animals including orphaned newborns, senior animals, animals with behavioral issues, injured animals, and animals with ongoing health problems. Since their founding in September 2002, they have successfully placed hundreds of these deserving animals into loving homes.
The UAAF is an all-volunteer organization and relies entirely on public support for its continued success. All proceeds from sales of this anthology will go directly to the UAAF to assist them in their mission.
What we're looking for:
We're looking for tall tales where our furry friends are the heroes. Like everything at Twisted Tree Press, these stories should be firmly rooted in the real world, but can twist away in any direction. Talking bunnies, super-powered hamsters, cats and dogs living together (mass hysteria!)... the important thing is that someone with four paws is the star.
Accepted genres will include narrative non-fiction, adventure, clean romance, comedy, magical realism, mystery, near-future sci-fi, urban fantasy, and others. All stories should leave the reader with a warm and fuzzy feeling, so please no horror or tragedy.
Stories should be no longer than 5,000 words, and should not have previously been published elsewhere (including for free on any distribution platform, website, or blog) or have been accepted to be published elsewhere.
If your story is accepted, you'll be offered a paid publishing contract by Twisted Tree Press. Please only submit if you can agree to the following terms:
Twisted Tree Press will hold exclusive print, electronic, and audio publishing rights for the story for 12 months from the date of publication of the anthology. The author will retain full copyright of any works published. Twisted Tree Press will retain the right to distribute the story in the format of the contracted anthology, with all proceeds benefitting the Utah Animal Advocacy Foundation.
How to submit:
Please carefully read these guidelines before sending in your submission. If you do not follow the guidelines, your submission will be rejected.
Please submit all stories in standard manuscript format, with your name and email address typed at the top of the first page along with your story's word count.
Your story should be submitted in .doc or .docx format. (If you don't have access to a software program that can save to this format, we recommend using Google Docs, which allows you to download your document as a .docx file.)
Your manuscript should be in 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, with 1" margins. Paragraphs should be indented using first line indents, not spaces or tabs.
Your submission must include a short logline.
Only one submission will be considered from each author.
All submissions must be received by midnight (Mountain time) on Thursday, May 31. Late submissions will not be considered.
